When you are Getting started with BankID the first time, you should go via your Internet bank. However, in order to clarify how it works here is a diagrammatic summary of the different stages:

 

1. Install BankID Security Application.

 

2. Depending on whether you will use BankID on file or BankID on card:

 

A. BankID on file - Activate BankID.

 

B. BankID on card - Install a card reader in your computer. Insert your BankID card in the card reader.

 

3. Start using your BankID. You can check if this works at test.bankid.com (only in Swedish and English).
